How To Give Back in Los Angeles This Thanksgiving

Los Angeles Thanksgiving Help Poor

The holidays are a time for counting our blessings and giving back to those less fortunate. Before you get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season, why not set aside some time to donate or volunteer this Thanksgiving?
Not sure where to start? Here are some great options for you.

Thanksgiving in Venice Beach

For the past six years, over 300 volunteers have gathered for Thanksgiving in Venice Beach to help hand out food, toiletries, and clothing to those in need. They also provide companionship for people who don’t have families to visit on Thanksgiving or who are living on the streets.
The event is held on November 28th from 7:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Venice Beach Basketball Courts (1800 Ocean Front Walk, Venice, CA 90291).
This year, they’re in need of monetary donations, warm cooked Thanksgiving dishes, toiletries, blankets, and more. Check out the link above to learn more about how you can help.

IVRS Thanksgiving Luncheon

The annual IRVS Thanksgiving Luncheon is co-sponsored by Inland Valley Recovery Services (IVRS), Project Boon, and Kids Against Drugs. The event will include a warm holiday meal, games and crafts for kids, a clothes closet, and a raffle. There will also be music all day and dozens of vendors who will provide health and wellness services and other needed local resources.
The luncheon is held on November 20th from 12 pm until 4 pm at Inland Valley Recovery Services (939 North D. Street San Bernardino, CA 92410). Contact them to learn more about how you can help.

Los Angeles Mission Thanksgiving Street Event

The Los Angeles Mission helps men, women, and children in need by providing emergency services, bridge housing, rehabilitation programs, and more. During their Thanksgiving Street Event, they serve over 5,000 pounds of food and give out Bibles, blankets, and tarps to the homeless people who attend the event.

Big Sunday Thanksgiving Stuffing Event

Big Sunday is an organization that connects people through helping. They believe that absolutely everyone has some way they can help someone else. You can get involved this year by donating or volunteering for their 8th Annual Thanksgiving Stuffing Event.
During the event, which is held on November 27th from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m., volunteers hand out bags full of Thanksgiving meals to those in need. This impacts thousands of people including homeless families, low-income families with autistic children, women in domestic violence shelters, veterans, and more!
They’re currently looking for food donations and people to help pack up and hand out the food. The event will also feature bluegrass music, arts & crafts, and a fun community breakfast.

Trot for Charity

If you’re looking for a fun way to give back, think about joining one of L.A.’s most popular Thanksgiving traditions: Turkey Trot Los Angeles. This event is held on Thanksgiving Day, November 28th, from 8 a.m. until noon (pick up your packets at 6:45 am) and features a 5k, 10k, 1-mile children’s “Widdle Wobble,” and a virtual run.
The cost of your registration goes to support The Midnight Mission which helps the area’s homeless find their path to self-sufficiency.
