The HAUS’ 5 Favorite BMW Performance Models

BMW Performance Auto Service Center

When you think of a BMW, words like speed, performance, and handling are usually the first to come to mind. While we think almost all BMWs are pretty great, some stand out from the crowd.

Have you ever wondered which models the pros at The Haus love the most? You’re in luck! Here’s a run-down of our top five favorite BMW performance models.

From the Racetrack to the Street

BMW Motorsport, re-named “BMW M” in 1993, was first conceived in 1972 to create racing cars. However, they quickly branched out and began building some of the hottest high-performance street-legal vehicles of all time. That’s why it’s no surprise that four of our favorites come from the M line of vehicles.

F90 M5

This vehicle was described by BMW’s vice president Domagoj Dukec as the “world’s fastest-moving tailored suit.” It’s powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.4 liter V-8 that can make the run from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 155 mph.

This vehicle also boasts 600 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, making it both faster and stronger than its predecessor. The turbos add an additional 24.5 psi. Combined with the all-wheel-drive M Drive system, the M5 enjoys an acceleration boost that allows it to reach 60 mph in an impressive 2.8 seconds.

M8

With muscular proportions, a comfortable ride, and massive power, the BMW M8 is definitely a force to be reckoned with. The twin-turbo 4.4 liter V8 paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a specialized all-wheel-drive system delivers 600 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. This coupe will shoot from 0 to 60 in just 3.1 seconds and will reach an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph. You can also upgrade to the optional M Driver’s Package, which increases the top speed to 189 mph.

X5M

The massive power and stunning acceleration make it clear that the BMW X5M is not your grandmother’s SUV. It features a mighty twin-turbo 4.4 liter V8, fat tires, and special suspension tuning that makes it one of the best crossovers on the planet.

The vehicle brings 600 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque and will rocket from 0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds. It also reaches a top speed of 187 mph — not bad for a midsized SUV!

M3

One of the best entry-level performance vehicles, the M3 has been a staple of the BMW lineup since 1985. The current version comes standard with a 3-liter biturbo charged 6-cylinder engine that delivers 425 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. It also has a 7-speed dual-clutch and rear-wheel drive.

These models will accelerate from 0 to 60 in four seconds flat. The base models top out at 155 mph, while some trim upgrades will give you a maximum highway speed of 175 mph.

M760Li

While the M-Series was built with racing in mind, these certainly aren’t the only BMW models that are known for their impressive performance. The design and power of the M760Li just goes to show how innovative and forward-thinking the company truly is.

Don’t let the unassuming looks fool you, this vehicle was once the fastest and most powerful road-legal BMW ever made. This isn’t a true M-series, but rather the ultimate 7-series.

The bi-turbo 6.0 liter V12 is truly a monster of a motor. It comes standard with all-wheel drive, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and produces 600 hp. This vehicle accelerates from 0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds and boasts a top speed of 130 mph.
